Magnificent Himalayan vistas, 2500-year-old-temples and ancient caves are the prized possessions of Jageshwar making it famous among explorers and pilgrims. However, the fascinating traditions and customs performed the locals have added a new dimension to the place. Worshipping ancestors’ spirit is part of the Kumaoni tradition. It is believed that by doing this, they invoke the god and deities to shower their blessings and to resolve their problems. Mahashivratri is an important festival of the region, and to celebrate this grand event people organize a big fair. During this day the women take a ‘Diya’in their hand and stay awake the entire night.
